Why choose alloy wheels?

What are alloy wheels?

Alloy wheels are made up of an alloy metal, which is a substance that combines two or more elements. Typically, this metal is either magnesium or aluminium to ensure structural integrity. Alloy wheels are generally more expensive than steel wheels as they cost more to manufacture and are considered the better option out of the two.

Why choose alloy wheels?

Though alloy wheels are more expensive than steel wheels, there are many advantages to having them fitted to your vehicle.

Advantages of alloy wheels

Lighter in weight – this is one of the main advantages of alloy wheels compared to their steel counterparts. They are lighter in weight which helps to reduce the overall weight of the car. This helps to improve braking, acceleration, steering and fuel economy whilst also prolonging the life of your tyres.

Vehicle performance – the lighter weight helps with vehicle performance. With less weight on the coil spring, there is less wear and tear on the suspension which can improve the performance and drive of the vehicle.

Corrosion resistant – most alloy wheels are made up of aluminium, which is known for its resistance to corrosion unlike steel or other metals. This makes them less likely to rust overtime and easier to repair and maintain

Aesthetics – compared to others, allow wheels look the most aesthetically pleasing. This is due to the complex manufacturing process that creates the design, which can also be made bespoke to specific requirements.

How do alloy wheels compare to steel wheels?

When comparing the two, the main differences are cost and appearance. Whilst steel wheels are significantly cheaper, alloy wheels are lighter in weight which can improve the overall performance, quality and fuel economy of a vehicle. Steel wheels are also prone to corrosion compared to alloy wheels, making them less durable.
