Alloy wheels are made up of an alloy metal, which is a substance that combines two or more elements. Typically, this metal is either magnesium or aluminium to ensure structural integrity. Corrosion resistant – most alloy wheels are made up of aluminium, which is known for its resistance to corrosion unlike steel or other metals. This makes them less likely to rust overtime and easier to repair and maintain.
Aesthetics – compared to others, allow wheels look the most aesthetically pleasing. This is due to the complex manufacturing process that creates the design, which can also be made bespoke to specific requirements.
When comparing the two, the main differences are cost and appearance. Whilst steel wheels are significantly cheaper, alloy wheels are lighter in weight which can improve the overall performance, quality and fuel economy of a vehicle. Steel wheels are also prone to corrosion compared to alloy wheels, making them less durable.
