We all know how important it is to have our cars serviced regularly. A car service will help to keep your car in good condition and prolong its life. Car servicing can also save you money as it gives trained specialists the opportunity to spot any underlying issues before they develop into problems. But how often should you have your vehicle serviced?
As a general rule of thumb you should book a Silver Service every 12 months or 12,000 miles (whichever comes first) to keep your vehicle in good condition.
There are, however, other factors which affect how often you should have your vehicle serviced. If you use your vehicle frequently you should also have a Bronze Service every 6 months or 6,000 miles to ensure that it remains healthy between annual servicing intervals.
If you are long overdue a car service, or for total peace of mind, you may wish to have a Gold Service which is a comprehensive check of all vital vehicle components.
In addition, we would recommend checking your vehicle handbook for recommendations for servicing intervals from the manufacturer. If you do not meet specified servicing requirements your warranty may be invalid.
Although following the guidelines above is best practise, there may be occasions when your vehicle requires additional servicing.
Many modern vehicles feature on-board computers which will alert you when your car requires a service. Even if it has not been 12 months, or 12,000 miles, since your last car service you should not ignore this warning. Book your car in for a service as soon as you notice these warning signs.
