Many motorists do not realise that they need to have their air conditioning re-charged. This is an important part of car maintenance and should be undertaken every two years if you wish to get the most out of your air conditioning system.
Most vehicles are fitted with air conditioning as standard, but if you find that your air conditioning is failing to cool your car down on hot days, then it is not running effectively and may be using unnecessary fuel.
At Merityre Specialists, we provide an air conditioning recharge with RG134a refrigerant gas as standard or you can choose R1234yf gas, which is an effective refrigerant with low global warming potential and is used on Jaguar, Land Rover, Kia, Honda, Subaru and Suzuki models manufactured after 2011. We can only currently offer this gas at our Andover, Sunbury, Hazlemere and Woking branches.
The gas used in your air conditioning, also called refrigerant, is lost naturally at a rate of about 10% per year, which causes pressure loss in your air conditioning system. When the pressure of the gas decreases, your engine will have to work harder to keep the air cool and in some cases, it may fail to cool the air completely.
As standard, you should have your air conditioning recharged every two years. This will keep it working effectively to cool down your car in summer and demist your windows in winter.
In addition, if you notice any of the following signs, then you should book an air conditioning recharge at Merityre:
